I am going to buy a prime lens f1.4. I know it wont AF on the D40 but at some stage i will probably change the body. Has anyone got experience of this lens and how it would perform on a d40. Im looking at doing some band shots and also portraits of my twins who will be born soon

Great Great Lens...I got to use it on my uncles D200.... I loved it. I want to buy the same lens for the d90 I have. I was going to get the 50mm1.8 but after getting to use both it is the 1.4 for me!!!!

Depends which one I think... there is a 50mm f/1.4 that will AF on your D40.

    Have any more info?

The optics are the same. The G model has the motor that is needed to auto focus on the D40/60/5000 models. It is a tad over a hundred dollars more for the joy of having the motor.
