Nikon 50mm f/1.8D AF Nikkor Lens

I bought my 50mm 1.8 off a guy with a D3000 due to the lack of AF in the lens or body. Think the guy used it twice and sold it for half price. :) yay.

Great lens for the price, but I personally prefer wide lens on DX camera's.

if the model says AF-S in it, that mean that it has the Silent Wave Motor built into the lens for autofocusing. The D90 and higher up models have a focus motor built into the camera body.

I think the D80 back-up body i recently picked up for pennies does too, it seems to focus my Tokina 11-16 just fine if i recall correctly

The D90 and higher up models have a focus motor built into the camera body.
So do the older Nikon's, the:
  • D1 series
  • D2 series
  • D1xx Series (D100, D200, etc.)
  • D50, D70, D70s, and D80.
To attract more women buyers Nikon needed to make their camera bodies smaller and lighter.

So, the in the camera body auto focus screw drive system, including the auto focus motor, got left out to accomplish that goal. So the so called 'baby' Nikon's, the D40, D40x, D60, D3000, D3100, D5000, D5100 don't have the auto focus screw drive system, including the auto focus motor, in them.

Note that Canon quit putting a auto focus screw drive system, including an auto focus motor, in any of their camera bodies back in 1987.
