AHHH!!!! Right when I need this lens for the job theres a shortage! I shouldn't of waited :x! Now I can't get this lens anywhere and waitlists have developed as there is no word from Nikon about when more of these lenses are going to be produced. Anyone have any idea?

Nope! ZERO on craigslist, there are none on B&H photovideo either. There are a few on EBAY but I don't trust ebay, especially when on ebay the price is jacked because of the shortage anyway. There is one left on Amazon but $400 dollars more expensive than listed on B&H.

I don't think you are looking too hard, are you?

*ALL* in stock at the time of this post. (I suggest Sigma4less for a few hundred dollars less! ;))

Prices are going nuts on this lens and the 85mm F/1.4... what is Nikon doing?? I paid several hundred dollars less 8 months ago for the 70-200! I've had offers to purchase my 85mm F/1.4 for $400 more than I paid for it a couple months ago... and I *only* purchase brand new. What is up with Nikkor prices lately???

Yeah I'm aware that Amazon has 1 left at 2,000 - Sorry Adorama is listed as OUT OF STOCK

I'm not sure about Sigma 4lEss as a vendor, I've never bought anything from them....are they legit? Do you know anyone that has done business with them?

Youch....

Even on ebay, the ones getting bids are almost all $1500+....used.

Less than a year ago, I picked mine up for $1100. Wonder what is going on at Nikon??

Well why dont you try and find one as a rental till you do your job. Then get one later when the supply is back up.

I can't justify shelling out 100 bucks per day everyday I need it when I'm going to buy it anyway. Each time i'm going to need it I'm going to have to pay for a full weekend, might as well buy it at the inflated price, and not at the market price of 1,650. <sigh></sigh>

It wasn't out of stock yesterday when I posted, but keep your eyes open, Adorama receives stock Sundays and updates inventory for Monday morning.

Sigma4less is an authorized Nikon retailer. I have done business with them twice (coincidence, but Sigmas both times... Sigma 30mm and Sigma 18-50... in both cases I was more than pleased with the lenses and they were $75 less than the best prices I could find ANYWHERE at the time). No muss, no fuss and no bells and whistles. They do just the bare minimum to get you your lens for the price advertised and you pay for the shipping you decide on. The only thing I was promised was a 10% discount on the 3rd lens and when I wanted to order the 3rd lens... the 85mm F/1.4 from them, their price was $40 more than where I got it elsewhere (B&H). I gave them a chance to price match, they could not, so B&H got my business for that lens.

My local shop has 3 in stock. Send cash! ;)

Shipping from Japan will wreck hell on the warranty and shipping costs... lol

BuZzZeRkEr, the best piece of advice I can offer you is... be patient and wait. I was going to pick one up (the 70-200) just before Christmas. There were none anywhere and I almost caved in to paying big bucks, but I decided not to feed the leeches and waited a short while. Sure enough they went from non-existant ANYWHERE to being available all over the place a week later.

Don't cave in to the leeches that overcharge $2000 for this lens. I paid $1400 brand new SHIPPED to my door in Canada (Canada Post was even nice enough to forget to charge me GST/PST and brokerage charges!). There seems to be a cycle with these things, so wait it out, ride the wave and then when you find what you want at a reasonable price that YOU can afford... pounce on it! :D

I should take my own advice and wait till after Christmas before getting my next camera (instead of purchasing at the high season of just before Christmas). I bet it would save me a little more.

YES! B&H got them in stock last night! I've got me a 70-200mm on the way! Now....just need a gig bag.
