I don't really care about video and only occasionally use live view. It bugs lots of people who do use these feature that lower end nikons cant control aperture in movie or live view. Is this a hardware or software ommision. I read a recent article that stated the aperture cant be changed because these cameras dont have a motor to change it, is this correct

No.
You've never looked closely at the lens mount on Nikon DSLR cameras?
There is a mechanical link between the camera and the lens aperture mechanism.

The user needs to put the camera in Manual or Aperture priority mode and set the lens aperture before activating Live View.
Then when shooting video the camera software alters the ISO to maintain the exposure. Exposure is sampled using Matrix metering.

The users should be able to adjust the Exposure Compensation when shooting video.

So if the camera can adjust the aperture itself, why not in live view, its not like we move this lever ourselves, excuse my ignorance on the subject
