Nikon D3/ ISO 25,600

Oh, come on...I was just poking fun at you guys. I'm not a "brand-washed" consumer.
Just seemed odd, that the range moved from 100 to 200 upwards.

Does anyone know why this is? Is one chip not able to be of high sensitivity, as well as of low?

I theorise it's something to do with the higher sensitivity in their sensor design but I haven't been able to actually prove it or confirm it. ISO100 may be some kind of a technical impossibility.

There are very few times I need ISO 100. 200 works just fine 99% of the time.

I agree... given the choice between needing ISO 100 or needing a D3, I think I will choose the D3 and worry about the ISO 100 later.

Even my "obsolete" D1X only goes to ISO 125. The D3's "native" minimum sensitivity is ISO 200. That simply means that the sensor without any hardware amplification is 200. It was not long ago that MF digital backs were stuck at ISO 25, or 50. I would imagine as 5th gen DSLR's come on line the min ISO will go up and so will max. ISO. And ya, maybe you will have a 3,000,000 ISO for that trip to Pluto you have planned in 2108.
