Nissin Di866 help

ok so i bought a Nissin Di866 on ebay as a cheaper alternative to a nikon sb 800/900 having done a lot of research. it arrived today and i had a quick play with it. although i have read in numerous places that the recycling time is apx. 3 seconds this is taking anything up to 7 seconds! it is also making an odd high pitched static sound ( dont know if this is normal) should i send it back or is there something im not doing right? the biggest problem is i have to decide what to do with it today as i am away for a week as if tomorrow.

The noise is the capacitors charging and it is normal.

Actual recycle time depends on the type and freshness of the batteries you use. There should be battery info in the users manual.

The quickest recycle times are usually provided by NiMH batteries rated at 2700 mAh.
