Don't you mean short lens? A long lens will have a more shallow DOF than a short lens.

Not for macro.

A 200 or 300mm lens from 1 or 1.5 meters away will have a massively larger DOF area than an 80 or 100mm macro lens at 10 or 20 inches away.

The trouble with that is of course holding it steady and finding the subject quickly in the VF.
