Oak

Since Richmond literally has oak trees growing everywhere, I thought that I would take a picture of one on a sunny day. I'm a total beginner (complete with 5 megapixel point and shoot camera) and I'll take all the tips you can give! Thanks =)

Interesting perspective. You can still get great shots with a P+S, you should check some of Emma's images, you just need to know its limitations. For example P+S cameras going from the bright sunlight to the leaves is a bit abrupt, it should be more gradual. However, in the end it's not the camera it the person behind the camera.

Wasn't really a critique, you didn't clip the transition, it's just P+S cameras do that since they add more contrast and sharpness for a more pleasing effect, which does have its drawbacks.
