Help.
How do I adjust aperture in a d40 camera?

If i am switching to A mode (Aperture priority), when I am using the command dial, it does adjust but just a little bit.
How do I make a drastic change?
Do I have to be adjusting the ISO / Shutter speed for it as well?

ty in advance.

What do you mean it only adjusts it a little bit?

Maybe he reached the maximum aperture or the minimum...try turning the dial the other way :p

There is no trick to it.

Put the mode in A.

The command dial will run through all the available apertures from wide open until your lens is closed (those settings will depend on the specific lens).

I tried the A feature just now with the fixed 50mm lens and the kit lens. It seem the narrowest aperture in wide angle and in telephoto are different with kitlens.

With the 50mm fixed lens it's max is f22.
Kitlens wide angle it is up to f22 and f36 in telephoto.

with the kit lens, f/3.5-f/5.6 at 55mm you can only go down to f/5.6 but up to f/(what ever it is 22 or so). At 18mm you can go as low as f/3.5.

OP, with the kit lens i believe that the aperture doesn't go into position until you take a picture. admittedly i am a noob but i think that's what you're asking and i also think that's what's going on with the lens.

with the kit lens I can do only 5.6 +/- one stop... 0_o

I'll try a different lens today..maybe thats all there is to it.. thank you for your input guys.
