old-er 4x6 prints --> digital

I have some ten year old prints that I would like to scan to digital and ive done that but was wondering whats the best process. Can I salvage these images to their best possibilities? If only I had what have now....

How many do you have? If it's just a handful, it might just be best to go to a pro photo lab and see if they can do some high-res scans on CD for you. If you have quite a few, then a scanner wouldn't be a bad investment.

For now I have about a dozen. I have an hp all-in-one that seams to do a prety decent job but noticed a few came out with quit a bit noise. My guess is I could get better results from a pro photo lab.
Should I be scanning as tiff bmp or other ? I chose 600ppi tiff. Any thoughts?

Heres one that I scaned jpg I think it was 300ppi.
