I took a few pictures in raw format to see how big of a difference there really is, but my computer will not open the files. I'm useing SuSe 9.0 with the gimp 1.3 (2.0 as soon as i get my computer squared away with devel tools) My istD saves the files as .pef files, don't know if thats standard or what, but does anyone have any idea how to open these files?

most raw files are proprietary to the camera you are using. You may have to use the software that came with your camera to initially work with them.

Trog- don't know if anybody has a linux version of a RAW converter.

RAW would be worth a small windows partition just to be able to convert. Assuming you can't find something that'll run on SuSe.
