Who else makes lenses for Canon cameras aside from the usual suspects, Canon, Tamron, and Sigma?

Right now I'm looking for a Telephoto zoom lens, and sort of thinking about the idea of a super wide angle lens.

you pretty much listed the common makers yourself. I am sure there are one or two highrange lenses made for canon though they are likley to be very specialist and pricey. Many other options are going to be the super budget line which will often not deliver on quality - rock bottom prices for stuff which just don't give you a good result.

If your despirate there might be come older film lenses worth looking into with a mount adaptor on ebay - though its a massive area with a lot of companies and much is not in production anymore (2nd hand market)

For a super wide angle zoom, the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 gets good reviews.

What are you looking to spend?

Really the only 3rd party lens makers are Tamron, Sigma and Tokina. Anything else is going to be a roll of the dice (Phoenix lenses for example)

    Greetings Spaceman Spiff 23,

How much reach are you looking for in a telephoto? Is f/5.6 ok? Here's a used Canon telephoto but it's not a zoom, and they want a little more for it than the last one they had.

I haven't really decided what I want to spend yet. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something while I was searching and researching the internets.

Perhaps oddly, I first figure out what my equipment needs/wants are, then I buy the best equipment I can afford that satisfies those needs/wants.
