Hi all,

This is my last image taken on May with my carbon fiber telescope. It is a galaxy : M51 " The Whirlpool " located 37 million light-years from the Earth.

6 nights have been necessary to take this pictures and i combined more 250 shots to have 17h30min. of total exposure.

This galaxy contains about 300 billion stars. In fact in this galaxy you have 2 galaxies. The first and big Whirlpool up, the small down. M51 is the result of the collision of 2 galaxies.

The separation between them will be over in several million years.

Better to see with your room in the DARK.

And this is a picture of me with my telescope : http://www.poigetdigitalpics.com/welcome.html

I am blown away! That's what I call a zoom lens! :)
Great shot! I especially like it on the full resolution page!

Wow, just wow!!! I have always wanted to do this kind of photography, space just absolutely amazes me!

Thats a SUPER image. Awesome work

Thats pretty cool stuff...Can I ask how much a telescope like that costs

Thank you very much guys for all your messages. I appreciated them a lot.

Photography in astronomy is very different of classic photography. We use different techniques and cameras with scientific CCD cooled, RGB filters adjusted for astronomical objects.

The price of my telescope is about $9,000 and $8,000 for the equatorial mount with its onboard computer. The astronomical CCD camera made by SBIG in Santa Barbara ( http://www.sbig.com/ ) costs $6,695.

To have this picture a lot of budget is necessary.

Thanks once again.

Florent :)
