    Hello everyone

I'm new to the forum here and sort of new to photography. I'd like to know if there are some good magazines on photography. I know there are quite many and therefore it's hard for me to tell which of them are quality magazines and not just some pop-gadget "look how cool this new technology is" kind of thing. In the sound world there is for example "Sound on sound" - great and very relevant articles by people who really know their stuff. What is the equivalent in the photo world?

    Cheers
    Bo

These magazines deal more with the art side of photography as compared to the technical end.

    Aperture
    Shots
Black and White (the U.S. version)
    Camera Arts

Those are a few that come to mind immediately.

    Thanks

Maybe I should mention that I'm still interested in the technical aspects when it comes to "how to set your camera to get this expression" and Photoshop editing and so on. Do the magazines mentioned also deal with these things?

No. These publications are about as far removed from the technical aspect as you can get. I'm afraid I am not up to par with the tech mags. There is a really good digital tech magazine out there I have picked up every now and then. The name escapes me, but I am sure someone out here knows what it is.

  5. "Digital Photographer" gives a lot of How To info, but you're better off these days acquiring that info online.

Yeah, I know, but I'm old fashioned when it comes to the feeling of holding actual paper in my hand vs. reading online :)

Here is one that I have been a subscriber to for many, many years and it deals with the tech side a bit but it's main objective is the business side of photography- PDN (Photo District News). I find it to be one of the most informative photography magazines out there.

Lens work is easily one of my favorites, but it's expensive.
