There is no limit on image resolution - xxxx pixels by xxxx pixels.
There is a limit on image file size. Exactly what that limit is has not been communicated by the administration of the forums, but seems to be about 2 Mb.

There are a number of ways to change the image file size without changing the image resolution.
For example stripping the image files Exif information using the For Web option in an editing applications output section reduces the image file size.
Another way is to lower the Quality value when saving an image file. Lowering the Quality value has no visible effect on how the image looks online.
