Does anyone have any expetise with Photobucket? I'm trying to take my pictures out of my photobucket account (so I can close it down) and move them onto my computer hard drive. But some of the pictures that are appearing on my hard drive from Photobucket are distorted 0 stretched wide, for instance.
Anybody know why this would happen and what I can do to save my photos?

I did the same thing. I was able to download all of them, with maybe half a dozen that, for whatever reason, didn't transfer properly. I only had to go back and do it again, and eventually retrieved them all.

I know that with larger files PB has a reputation of resizing, but not to the extreme you're describing. My files were not particularly large, however, and I did have backups on another computer - just wanted them off PB onto my laptop. You don't have copies anywhere else?

PhotoBucket was never designed to be a 'cloud-based' image storage system. It was for hosting only.
