photography expeditions or workshop experience

I'm a 3rd yr student in photo and am trying to learn more, I don't feel that I am ready to start an internship and am kind of intimidated by it. I want to go on some sort of photography expeditions and some workshops. Nat Geo as you can imagine are outrageously priced and there are many offered but I am not sure which are legit and are worthwhile so hopefully someone out there can offer some advice or let me know of your experiences with various organizations. Thanks a bunch!

I just took a Popular Photography workshop to Kentucky in April. It was very fast paced and gave me the opportunity to see and photograph things that I would never have had the chance to do before. One of the instructors was really good and helpful. I feel that I came home with some new knowledge. The workshop itself was reasonable but after adding the hotel and airfare, it was pretty spendy. Even so, I feel it was a valuable experience.
