Photoshop Question

What ways do you prefer to select a specific item within an image?

Ex: a flower or a car from a picture.

Lasso?Magnetic Lasso?

What version of PS do you have? I use CS3 and like the quick selection tool.

I tend to use the brush tool, and mask out objects on new layers, or on adjustment layers.

I've never really been fond of the normal selection tools, for some reason.

It really depends what I want to do to the object though.

lasso tools are easier to do accurately, but masking is good because you can undo and redo parts whenever you want/need to....i usually use lasso tho

HMM... I have CS3 I'd like to learn masking. I usually use the selection tools.

Any one have a quick explaination?

I use the lasso and other selection tools alot. I started out Photochopping intially so, it was always fast and, easy.

it depends. If you are changing the colour of something that is isolated, you can just make a really rough selection and put it on a new layer. Then use hue and saturation in a limited spectrum to alter one particular colour.

I prefer to use layer mask, so I can alwasy go back and tweak some more or change at any time.
a quick expl.

duplicate layer
layer mask
hide orig. layer
then paint away in the mask version
can undo at anytime with the oppisite color
