DOF stands for Depth-Of-Field.


DOF is a function of 4 things:

1. the lens focal length
2. the lens aperture
3. the subject to camera image sensor distance
4. the subject to background distance

Depth of field is a range of distances in front of, and behind, the focus point used.

In general, large apertures produces much shallower DOF than do small apertures.
