Why o why were you using F16 1/160 iso800 @ 55mm shutter priority, if you don't know how to use manual you should use Aperture priority for these type of shots so you can control your DOF

eeek i didnt read the exif, but iso800 is way high for these conditions.
wider ap woulda blurred your bg nicely too, and also would have allowed for faster shutter which may have made these a bit sharper.

I never realised the iso was so high *facepalm* one thing I deffo will check for next time. I wasnt sure whether to use shutter or aperture priority, and I think maybe, like you said, if I went for AP instead I would have got a better dof, as I wanted the bg blurred. Again something I will know for next time!

the first picture I just saturated the bg a little, I never used the orange thing. I've only recently got back into photoshop, and I have forgotten a lot of what I learned. so any tips for that would be great too!
