If I have a polarizer filter on my lens will it reduce the reflections from the water in a photo (e.g., treeline/branches in the water)?

yup, same goes for car window glare and things of the sort.

it will also remove "reflection" in the air giving brighter blues and better cintrast with the clouds

and will effect the exposure as you will need to add additional fstops.

how many , will depend on which filter; usually at least 2fstops

Then a polarizer filter is definitely worth adding to the kit but must be used judiciously, correct?

The next ? is what brand of filters are preferred? I was once told tiffen or quantaray. Does this still hold true. TIA
