Looking at 85mm 1.4 lens versus Nikon's two f2 DC lenses and wondering if the DC function can be used to blur the background more than a normal f2 lens? If so, wouldn't they make for better as portrait lenses on full frame because of their longer focal length, assuming a similar amount of blur and and equally nice bokeh can be achieve in comparison to the 85 1.4?

As I understand it, the DC feature is used to selectively add blur to either the foreground or background. If I am wrong there, school me.

Thanks!

Essentially correct, yes. The DC lenses allow you to 'defocus' foreground/background. They're nice enough lenses, but IMO, a bit finicky in terms of getting the precise DoF you want dialled in, and also a tad pricey. I MUCH prefer my 85 1.4; DoF is plenty shallow when needed and much easier to use. I do wish though that Nikon would produce a 135mm 1.4; granted, it would be a beast of a lens (probably similar to the 200mm f2), but it would be bee-yoot-eeful!
