Possibly the most depressing song ever

Sad day, I just looked up the lyrics to Cats in the Cradle - I just realized how much I don't listen to lyrics

I used to never really listen to the lyrics I'd probably heard Cats in the Cradle 100's of times before I really listened to it.

I can't remember which group sang my next nomination for the most depressing song ever, but the lyrics go something like

The sun on the meadow is summery warm
The moose on the tundra runs free
But gathered together to greet the storm
...

Damn, I wish I could remember the next line.

Best,
Helen

Elliot Smith is a good pick, but I think his stylistic predecessor, Nick Drake takes the cake. You guys have heard the lyrics to 'Suicide is painless', right? You can guess what it's about.

And if I could include a modern pick for 'really really depressing song', how about Sufjan Stevens - Casimir Pulaski Day. It's just heartbreaking. Its simply about a friend dying and questioning your faith as a result, but it's powerful stuff.

We should all remember this one by Moody Blues.

Many reasons I can relate to this.

"[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zrjePH49Aq0&feature=related"]...knowing that you lied straight-faced while I cried[/ame]."

One of the saddest lines I've ever heard.
