So I bought a new laptop, and installed CS2 on it. I tried to edit some RAW pictures on it, but it says it cant recognize that type of file. It sees that something is there as it tells me the file name (without the cr2 ext.) and it can see the size of the file, but it will not open it. It will open jpegs. I remember telling it during setup which files I wanted PS to open with, and RAW was one I had selected. I have the same program on my PC and have no problems. The PC is Windows XP though and the laptop is Vista. Anyone have any ideas on what I need to do?

Thank you for your time.

Make sure you have the latest version of Camera RAW support from Adobe.

That should resolve the CS2 issue.

For Windows, Canon has a RAW codec that should enable thumbnails and etc. This may not be the correct version, I just hit Canon and looked for downloads for the 350xti and Vista and found this:

Keep in mind I am a Nikon guy, but we have essentially that same issues on that side of the aisle.

Good Luck!

From Adobe's download web site.....

"Camera Raw 4.4.1 ReadMe

The Camera Raw 4.4.1 plug-in is not compatible with versions of Photoshop earlier than Photoshop CS3 or versions of Photoshop Elements earlier than Photoshop Elements 4.0 for Macintosh or Photoshop Elements 5.0 for Windows®. The latest versions of the Camera Raw plug-in available for previous Adobe software titles are listed below"

Do you know of a workaround for CS2 to use this 4.4.1 download????

This looks like the CS2 version. From what I can tell its the latest one that CS2 supports but that is just after a cursory search.

Sorry that I did not catch the CS3 requirement the first time around.

Hate to bring this up, but.....

"Adobe
® Photoshop® Camera Raw 4.2 Read Me

Installation
This new version of the Camera Raw plug-in replaces the original Camera Raw plug-in that was installed with Photoshop CS3, Photoshop Elements 4.0(Mac Only), Photoshop Elements 5.0 and Premiere Elements 3.0.
The Camera Raw 4.2 plug-in is not compatible with versions of Photoshop earlier than Photoshop CS3 or versions of Photoshop Elements earlier than Photoshop Elements 5.0 for Windows and Photoshop Elements 4.01 for Mac."

From the link you posted above.....:(

Also check 4.0, not for CS2.....the most recent for CS2 is 3.7.........

.

Hate to bring this up, but.....

Thanks for catching that. I should make a point to not post so early in the morning

Somehow in my fog laden head I read that as being for CS2.
