purple negatives

ive been lucky developing my own black and white negatives. today i developed a roll of 100 asa kodak black and white film and i noticed a large solid purple color stain on part of the negatives. does anybody know what this is?

i use developer, stop bath, fixer, and fixer remover and rinse for 30 min

re-fix, using fresh fixer

so the fixer is the problem? it is a fresh batch of fixer. i will mix it again.

i use standard tap water to mix the chemicals should i use filtered or spring water?

distilled would be nice! Thats what I used to try and use, but in school, I remember us just running off the tap.. haha

Am I wrong in saying a rinse through some hypo clear couldn't hurt?

unless you have a high level of iron in your tap water (which will increase contrast) i won't worry.

distilled water dip with some photo flor after the wash is nice and distilled water when toning is in my opinion important.
