i mentor this kid in california and im trying to get him into photography
he is a bit financially limited. right now he has a canon al-1 but the elnse was broken
and embarrasingly i dont know much about canon lenses to help him find a new one.
do canons use universal mounts like pentax?
i know the al-1 uses a breech mount but i searched that on ebay and got nothing.
any information?

The AL-1 uses FD mount lenses a close cousin of the AE-1. You should find many used and good conditioned lenses. If they are just learning, a 50mm lens is a good choice and should be affordable. You can find more information about the camera here: www.canon.com/camera-museum

Ebay often has a good selection of lenses. Just do a search for
canon lens FD

good luck and I commend you on your involvment with a mentor program for kids. The AL-1 and a good lens should serve him/her well
