Yep, extension cords are cheap and great if there is power on location. I wouldn't go with miles of cord though! LOL Enjoy your AlienBees....great lights!

The reason the Vagabond is so expensive is because of the pure sine wave convertor.

This is a very important point. The vast majority of plug in power inverters are not pure sign wave converters, Most crap that people plug into them are not that particular about power, but some sensitive electronics will be destroyed by cheap inverters. I'm not sure about studio strobes, but If AB went to the time and expense of including a pure sine wave converter its probably important, so to be safe, I would use nothing less.

i ended up ordering the vagabond. i should hopefully be getting it within the next two weeks since it's back ordered. i'm looking forward to using it on location
