Yes it's nice to get photos taken in different ways, in different situations. Doing that, you build more of a "story" about what went on during the event. Viewers appreciate variety, evem if you have 100 great pics, if it's all the same style shot from the same angle/place on the course, people are more likely to get bored or not see the pics as anything special, no matter how technically successful they are.

I often end up thinking that after attending an event, even tho I would never consider myself a journalist, I always wonder, "what do my pics say?" or "what happens here actually?". Sometimes (often ...) the answers are not very satisfying ;)
 
Great shots!! Ohh how I miss racing :(
 
Panning is where you follow the motion of whatever your shooting generally with a lowish shutter speed with the aim of getting the subject sharp and background blurred with the motion of the camera.

Can be done in photoshop after, but that is less fun!!!
