Recommend a good portrait lens.

for 17-35 range zooms, i suggest the tamron 17-35mm 2.8-4 Di. After much much research i decided on that lens myself for a wideish zoom (it was down to that and the sigma 18-50 2.8) My copy is quite sharp. I'd look into reviews at fredmiranda.com/reviews before purchasing anything, it's a great place to get info on lenses.

After a lot of research and with your help I ordered the Tamron SP AF 17-35MM F2.8-4 DI LD. Now if it would just hurry and arrive. $439 w/shipping and a $40 rebate. I feel pretty sure I'll be happy with it. Many thanks to everyone who helped with this decision.
