Last week, after a fairly uneventful Monday of shooting on the coast, I headed back out again on Tuesday. Sunset was absolutely gorgeous, but I didn't get a single shot of it, all because of this lady.
A beautiful female Northern Elephant Seal (yearling/subadult). It looked like she had just molted, and she appeared healthy. Oddly, the nearest haul-out of Elephant Seals was about another 30 minutes drive up the coast. In hindsight, I had noticed her earlier in the day, watching me clamber on the seaward rocks as I tried to find a landscape.
It was sad to see her laying there amidst a pile of trash, on one of Santa Cruz's more popular surfing beaches.
