Renault 4

In 1969 the company SOFASA (Sociedad de Fabricación de Automotores S.A.) was founded in Envigado, Colombia for the purpose of assembling Renault vehicles. The first model produced was the Renault 4 which was assembled from 1970 to1992. The company also assembled several Toyota models including Land Cruiser (a factory option was an armored bullet proof version) and Daihatsu. Remarkably the Renault 4 handled the rough roads and tracks found in many parts of the country in the early years. Many are still running and I see them daily in Cali.

Nice shot! I owned an R4, and it was a great little car. That little flow-through vent and opening the windows was the only air conditioning that thing had. After a drive one day, a was checking the front driver side tire, and noticed a little cannister up above the tire. I found out the hard way that it was the muffler... lost all my fingerprints for a week or so.
