a 5D won't be any less soft, a 350D with crappy lenses will be. Get a sharp lens for your 350D and focus it properly and it should be just as sharp. 12MP does not mean sharper.

I think that you should wait on buying anything personally...give it time and you might find your priorities have rearranged themselves. If it was ME though, I'd go buy some lenses!
