I just bought a Vivitar 6000 Macro Ringflash off of ebay and I was wondering if anyone has used this kind (or a similiar kind) of ring flash for portraiture? I know that they have ones specifically designed for portraits...they're huge and extremely expensive...but I thought I would try this out before taking the next step.

    thanks for any feedback

Macro ringlights aren't very bright, and their uses for portraiture can be pretty limited as a result.

If you spent maybe $100 on it, I guess it could be worth a shot, but I dunno, in order for it to work best, you'd have to be VERY close to your subject.
