We went camping for 4 days at the headwaters of the Rio Grande river in Colorado. The river originates in a large valley, where water seeps up from an unseen underground source. Little canals join to form the Rio Grande:

Immediately after this valley/swamp source, is a Dam, that forms the Rio Grande Reservoir - we drove beside the Reservoir and it was right at 3 miles long, a tremendous amount of water is stored, released as to please the farmers in the San Luis Valley where they use 80% of all the water from the upper Rio Grande to irrigate crops:

The river meanders it's way through the mountains, headed for the San Luis Valley in Colorado, then runs the length of New Mexico, becomes the border of US/Mexico through much of Texas then enters Mexico where it empties into the Gulf of Mexico:

As it exits the highest ground, the surrounding forest burned in 2013, leaving thousands and thousands of 'snags' (burnt, dead trees):

The Rio Grande, the 5th longest river in the USA :)

Very reminiscent of our countryside here and makes me wanna fish there. I'm off fishing today as it happens.

Decently depicted set.

Beautiful country. Thanks for the tour and the great images.

Very cool. I was at the headwaters of the mighty Mississippi River. Isn't it amazing to see that such a great rivers starts out as tiny streams.

Thanks, peeps....forgot to mention that there was lots of smoke in the air...from wildfires burning in Colorado.

The biggest one, near Grand Junction which is now the 3rd largest ever in Colorado.
