Sandhill Cranes.

Nice! Hadn't visited your flickr page recently until this thread- great stuff, as usual!

Great photos, I love seeing these birds! I don't see them very often where I live, occasionally very high overhead and on even rarer occasions up close ........ when I have no camera.

Wow! Great shots.

Eh, I think you should wait till all the wings are in sequence. :biggrin-new:

Yea, right. Nice shot.

As has been said, excellent shots of really cool birds.

They flock in east Tennessee in the winter. Literally! Hiwassee National Wildlife Refuge is a winter migration point for them and most of the time there are thousands of them there. Their web site states that there is an annual minimum of 89,000 of them that pass through Tennessee. Unfortunately the only place they can be viewed is from an observation platform, and it's a good distance from the water and birds (200 yards of so) but occasionally they will get a bit closer for a decent shot.

The last time I was there was in December, 2013 and my partner for that journey was Sharon Monet (SM4HIM). It was the last time I saw her and I just haven't had the heart to go back again.
