More grainy, overworked photos from the vacation files.

The beach stunk to high heaven- the sea lions were dead.

We thought. The animals started moving, occasionally flipping sand into the air. The beach still stunk.

    Near San Simeon.

They were just fine. Apparently that's what they do there... lie around, stink, throw sand and swim. Sort of like I do at the beach, except they are so graceful in the water.

Nice ones, mostly so the close ups.
I only ever saw sea lions in their natural habitat once in my life, on Kangarro Island off the Adelaide coast of Australia, and I don't recall a big stink on the beach. They were doing what you are describing here, lying there, throwing sand, not swimming (while I was there) ... and then this baby sea lion came up towards us, the tourist crowd, and we were all so distracted (positively, finding it so cute, clicking away like crazy), so maybe that is why our noses were switched off?

Good. I see THESE sea lion pics. I don't see the others, the ones posted by bacchus...
