i would like to present you some fotos from my website

http://de.geocities.com/andreasbuechel/wasserschau.html

which i made with a digitalcamera and a glass filled with water

i tried to get some of my sisterbrothers plants, trees, rivers into my
focus while seeing trough a glass filled with water

it makes me so much fun to do that looking

to do the photography is a bit more gymnastic or balancing exercise, in
one hand the glass full of water, in the other the camera, lying on the
earth or standing in a weired position and its a good feeling, to be able to
composite some of the visible material forms and let them be interacting with the
movements of the water, the much changing sunlight, a flame of a candle and many more
parables which add to this a sort of art, bringing something invisible
into a material, visible image

i would very much like to read from some of you, how the composition,
the arrangement on the site, which picture after which... and generally what
thoughts and or feelings come up by seentroughwater

wish you all the best

andreas buechel

Is this a fetish you want to tell us about...?

Aaron

Sorry, I'll be serious now... to be honest, they don't really do it for me. I don't really see the point. Is it meant to be arty...? With quite a number of the pictures, I can't even work out what it's a picture of.

Sorry - it might just be me. Hopefully others will have a greater appreciation for what you're doing...

ditto.

I really like the ninth one from the bottom - it's got the flower in the upper-right corner and the rest of it is swirly colors and shapes. It reminds me of Georgia O'Keeffe's paintings.

I don't think photography has to be representational, just like art doesn't have to be representational. There's absolutely nothing wrong with "arty." And, actually, I think the photos that work best of this group are the oens where you can't see the glass at all. I like the sixteenth one form the bottom - the one with three white berries - and I'd crop it in even tighter to get rid of the edges of the glass.

I must admit that most of these don't do much for me, either....that being said, there are a couple that are very lovely, as pure abstracts. The last one of the group has a beautiful muted color tone. Very nice on the eyes! Oh, and there is one of a rose about half way through the group that is very lovely, as well.

I think it's nice to hit upon an idea of viewing things and experiment with it - some nice images came out from this "through the water" thought. So - well done! I hope you continue to experiment. That's part of being a photographer.

this kind of feedback seems to me the one which really helps an
artist to grow

i will think about the cutting-the-glass-away idea

andreas,

don't ditch the idea because others don't here like it, you've done exactly what every good photographer does - experiement! Good on ya, matie! I think what may have happened is that you've posted a bit too many shots here at once for us to evaluate, maybe just post 5 or 6 of your favourites that you want criticism for.

I for one see pontential for this looking 'thru' water thing, though you may not have captured the 'one' shot that everyone loves, I for one would like to experiment now with this type of photography :)

I think this type of shot has a lot of potential (love the creamy colours!):

I would like to see perhaps more of the wine glass 'shape' in that one, but thats just personal preference. Lose the 'spot' too :)

Keep posting :) with a little less photos ;)

I agree to keep trying different things. And definatly crop out any evidence of the glass. I would also try things like glass bowls and such. get larger subjects. Even try some Sprite instead of water. bubbles may give a cool look. The more distinctive and larger objects are the best IMO.

Well said, vonnagy... although it's not "my thing", the last thing I want to do is discourage someone's enthusiasm for expressing themselves.

seentroughwater... may I suggest you look at the Smirnoff style of advertising...

Could you be extending your ideas in this kind of direction at all, perhaps using Photoshop?

Just an idea....

Aaron

I go with vonnagy and say: the problem for many here might be that you posted too many photos at a time. I personally can say that having to go through them all made me kind of restless and I'm sure the last ones did not get the evaluation they might deserve.

I like your idea as such, and with some, you've succeeded in getting really nice photos, like the first underneath your signature, with water INSIDE the glass, drops on the outside, and the candle in the background. I like that one, very nice colours.

And there's another... can't tell which number in the row, where you point your camera over the TOP of the glass, taking the photo through the water surface down to the stem... I like that one, too.

And there's one, as far as I remember, where a mountain panorama SEEMS to be reflected in the glass, too, upside down. I like that one, too.

thank you all again for your attention to my photos,
its helpfull to read, which people like which fotos and why
that will give me ideas how to present them and how to do new ones

for the moment, i do not have other fotos in the seentroughwater style,
but as spring arrives, i will sure do new ones

wish you all good times

andreas
