Selective Coloring

Can anyone offer a simple (if there is one) explanation on how to do some selective coloring with PS 7. I personally do not like this technique but have someone asking for some on a photo. Please point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance for you help !!!

i find the easiest way to do it is take your original.. save it as a new name as a black and white image. open it, change the mode to RGB, cut out what you want to be color and drag it over onto the black and white copy. either use sharpening mask to smooth it up, or change the layer preferecens to "color" and itll form real nice for you.

Even simpler, select the item or items to be colored. Hit select inverse and then hit remove color.
