Sharp shinned hawk

I'm having a lot of trouble with these photos - the snow is making it pretty hard to adjust well.
Any suggestions?

you need to overexpose for snow but because the bird is dark it just makes metering a nightmare, that said they are still pretty good shots

I took about...I guess 180 pics? So I did get a few good ones.
He sat there eating, not paying me much attention until finally I got TOO close and off he flew.
Pretty amazing bird, must say.
