She looks so much older.
Anyway, I was really working on DOF here. Let me know what you think.
Girls seem to be getting bigger and bigger with every generation, My eight year old neice is as tall as her mother allredy but any who... Your DOF looks alright to me, A touch wide maybe but not enough to take away from the picture. The Girl looks a little tense to me though.
i like the cropping\composition [with a lot of extra space on the one side], it seems to me too that she does seem a little bit tense.. I think it's just how her arms appear to be straight down to her sides. Lovely girl though! Do you have any other pictures in the same set?
Seems a little dark, colors seem a little funny to me. I like the shot though, I like that composition.
I have a daughter who does not look her age, so I know the looking so much older thing. We went to six flags and went to that age guessing booth and the guy guessed she was 21. She's only 15. Yep, locking her up.
I played a little with Levels to brighten it up a bit. It's not much brighter than yours, just a little extra oomph:
Her hair squares her face too obviously at the top. I would have her comb it a little more forward to hide what look like corners on the upper right and left hand side. The hair also needs a little more light to give it greater detail and the eyes need brightening as well.
Thanks everyone for the comments.
Wildmaven, that does brighten it up. I like it! Thanks!
Skieur, would you actually tell someone to comb their hair different before you photograph them??? Especially a pre-teen?? That would kill her self image. Do you realize how much time she probably spent on her hair??? I believe a good photographer also has good people skills.
wow she really doesn't look 12. nice shot though
Yes, and I have done so. I have also worked with an assistant who does exactly that sort of thing and by the way, no one has felt that their self image was killed.
