Shooting People On the Street

    (Sorry about the thread title, couldn't resist.)

    Is there an etiquitte "rule" about taking pictures of strangers? Do you always ask them...if so, before or after you take the picture? To ask before hand is a little impractical if you see a great candid shot, but more polite.

    What if it's a situation like in a cafe w/ open mike night or something, is it necessary to ask every person, or just the cafe owner or neither? Or if I see some kids playing little league, is it rude to just sit on the bleachers and snap a few pictures without permission?
