Ok I am a newbie so go easy on me for potentially stupid question. I am playing around with my new Sigma lens and I noticed that when I have a SB700 mounted on camera and turned on, lens starts making this strange half clicking have grinding very audible noise when I try to zoom it in and out. I can feel the vibration and a bit of resistance when turning. Turn the flash off and it goes back to nice and quite and silky smooth. What is this noise attributable to?

What you are hearing might very well be the flash unit's power zoom function. The Flash unit senses the focal length in use, and zooms the flash for the right coverage angle.

Thanks a lot :) That will explain the vibration as well that probably goes through the whole camera body. As typical newbie I was already thinking stripped gears, warranty repairs etc.

It's okay, no worries. The vibration and sound can be pretty noticeable.
