Yes, is would compare fairly closely to the Canon 430EX. I believe that the Sigma is a little more powerful. I've heard that the Canon units are built better and have a better feel than the Sigma, so I suggest you compare them face to face and see for yourself.

Thanks Mike. Just knowing the Sigma compares is a good start as it is alot cheaper as well-:)

I'll stop in at Henry's on Wednesday in London and check out the feel of the 2 flashes-:)

Try a Google search for comparisons of the Sigma vs the Canon 430 (and or the 580). There are other differences that don't come to mind.

I have the 500 DG ST; it works very well with auto TTL or manual. The Super has the same power but more manual control and other features. You get good power and features for the money; the only downside is that Mike says they are not built as well as own-brand ones, but this shouldn't be a problem in general use.

Sigma also have a newer version, called the 530, which I believe is slightly more powerful and has wider coverage. Could be worth looking into.

I've got the DG super and have used it for a while. Works really well so far in all of the applications I've used it in.
