I bought one of these SimpleTech Signature Mini USB 2.0 Hard Drives today to store my photos on instead of my main drive. Well the drive was defective right from the store. I plugged it in and a red light came on and I could hear the reader head ticking away, which means the drive is shot. I have read other reviews from people with similar problems with in a short time too. I bought it because Cnet said it was a good portable drive. Well I was pretty disappointed:confused:. Good thing I wasn't able back up all my photos on it!

I would probably but 2(maybe a different brand?) and set them up as a RAID 1, you could velcro the two drives together for easy portability. With portable drive the likelihood of failure is probably much higher than the drives sitting safely on my desk at home, having a redundant backup is pretty important IMO.
