Skydiving with a camera.

As near as could be determined afterwards, there was no mechanical failure at all. He apparently got so enthralled with the shots he was taking that he simply forgot to open the 'chute.

Did the film survive?

Note; I'm not being a funny guy, I just think it would be cool if if he died doing something he loved that his final shots lived for his loved ones to see.

No clue but, if I were the surviving relative, I would have thrown the film into the garbage.
 
My daughter skydives every weekend in South Carolina, and many of the folks she jumps with jump with cameras. But most of them use a small P&S that is more easily handled in mid-air, and if something goes wrong it's easier to stomach the loss when it's a $200 camera instead of an expensive DSLR / lens combo. And for what it's worth, the pics they end up with are awesome. Just my two cents worth...

Good luck, have fun, but be very careful. There aren't many second chances when jumping of airplanes.
