I can see it all right and I wonder: Can he not go home because it is too far and he is too tired to go all the way there or because he does not HAVE a home?

I'm not sure what I think about it, but maybe the fact that my first thought was that he shouldn't have left his shoes there in case someone falls over them suggests it didn't capture my imagination in the way that subject could do...
I might like it better with some information about the man, like LaFoto said. But that's just the way I like photojournalisam. A picture really can tell a thousand words, but with half a dozen words of explanation it can tell 2000 words!
