Some of last summer's withered Annabelle Hydrangea bloom heads in the gardens on this soggy February day. (And a little µPond developing between a pair of the gardens.)

I cut all the perennials back in the fall, except for the Annabelle hydrangeas and ornamental grasses.
I like the look of those in the late fall/ winter, plus the deer tend to nibble on the hydrangeas. This way, I have some plant left in the spring. ;-)

Thanks, Dean!

What I was really trying to capture was the... sogginess of it all. It's been raining here, nearly constantly, for three days now. The second photo I just liked the contrast between the dried bloom and the verdant hemlock trees behind them.

But you've given me a new idea: A macro close-up of one of those dried blooms.

If it ever stops raining.
