something other then photoshop

i don't have the money for photoshop at this time. I wanna get started on editing my photo's is there a decent free editing software that can take the place of photoshop ?

lol those where the two that i was debating over

they seam to be the top two on everyone list maybe ill download both

but wanna ask what is it that you choose one over the other

i recommend photoscape to my students as a starting pointing because it does more things than picsa, is free and has a series of videos that show how each function works.

Gimp is very good but there isn't a lot of information available on how to use, altho, i have seen a book listed recently.
