Sony a350 lens questions.....

I am curious about something, and a search doesn't really come up with anything to answer my question(s). So....if I don't know, I'll ask!

Preface: I have been searching for a 'budget' ultra wide angle lens for my alpha350 Sony. The camera's resale says, "I'm not worth that much, so don't spend a fortune!"


Thus the Sigma 10-20mm, but there are two different models of this lens for the alpha mount.
There is a model with the f/3.5 and then a model with the f/4-5.6
Which brings me to my question(s)......


#1: Is the 3.5 actually worth twice is as much as the 4-5.6? And if so, why?

#2: How can I justify spending between $375(f/4-5.60 to $600(f/3.5) for a lens considering the camera body it would go on is only worth about $125 to $275? And keep in mind, I'm saving for a Sony a7r(and this lens is not considered FF(or DG, it's listed as DC)....so it would be very limited without blacking out the corners.

Most will say the 3.5 is not as good as the 4-5.6 lens ... so don't waste your money for the slightly brighter lens ... especially if you are going to the FE mount.

Yeah, hard to buy something knowing you are going to get rid of it in the future (probably for a loss).
