It's the remake and upgraded version of Konica/Minolta's 7D. When Sony bought them out, they wanted to continue to build on their great idea and the alpha is it. On paper, it looks like an excellent camera and one that IMO could put some ripples in the DSLR water. Plus the fact that Zeiss is helping to make a good amount of the 22 new lenses they are releasing for it at the same time.

ETA: Didn't quite mean to make this sound like an infomercial for it, I've just been reading a lot about this camera and it looks gooood.

Hrummpph! Nice going, Guys! You're going to cost me some bucks. [Stamps foot -- angry look masking a sly grin.]

My Lady and I keep no secrets from each other. That's been part of the glue which holds us together so well. I shoot film. She shoots digital. I cannot in good conscience keep this information from her, now can I?

    'Nuff said!

I like the anti-dust technology. If it works.

I agree it looks pretty cool. I'm a bit confused by the decision not to include ISO 3200, since it was available on the Dynax/Maxxum 5D, but if the Alpha's anti-shake system is as good or better than the one in the 5D I probably wouldn't use it much anyway. I generally like Sony, the only thing that annoys me about them is their insistence on using proprietary technology instead of generic stuff (e.g. Memory Sticks) and sometimes atrocious software (try using the one that comes with their MP3 players). But that doesn't look like it'll be a problem with this camera. In summary, shiny new camera. Me want.
